Homework is an integral part of your child's education. It is a chance for him/her to practice the skills we have learned in class. Just as practice is needed in order to become more proficient in a sport, music, dancing, etc., practice is needed to become a better reader, speller, mathematician, etc. The homework will be sent home ion Fridays and is due the following Friday for all classes. It is expected that the homework will be turned in COMPLETE!! Also, we would appreciate it if you would go over the math page and check for errors correcting them with your child. Studies show that the sooner the errors are corrected the better so bad or incorrect habits do not form. This is the practice we will also be striving for as well in the classroom. Thank you in advance for your assistance in their learning. New district policy states homework is not mandatory but we highly recommend it to practice skills needed to be successful.
Please have a special place for your child to do their homework with necessary supplies such as: sharpened pencils, scissors, crayons, erasers. It should be an environment free of distractions such as the TV, video games, etc. It is best for them to come home from school and have a snack and rest a bit before doing their homework. Also, ideally homework should not be done just before bedtime when they are too tired!
Homework should be completed in pencil so corrections can be made.

Every night your student needs to practice reading a book for a minimum of 30 minutes. Our classrooms each have class libraries providing books for them to read plus you are welcome to check out books from the school library. The Bookmobile from Oceanside Library is available at John Landes Park every Wednesday after school also. Picture books should be read a couple of times. Chapter books need only be read one time.
