Central Idea:  Stories from around the world help us reflect on and understand beliefs and values.

 The purpose of storytelling

Stories can be communicated from different mediums.

Similarities and differences exist in stories around the world.

In this unit of study we look at the craft of storytelling looking at fairy tales and fables: what is characteristically found in these stories.  Students enjoy them in video format, read alouds, online versions, book versions, oral accounts, etc. Students demonstrate their understanding of the central idea by retelling a fairy tale of their choice in an artistic way: reflecting on the values that are expressed  through the craft or structure of the story.  Through this unit students also inquired about the  similarities and differences that exist in certain fairy tales throughout the world.
